Where clockin scores in the test

trusted awards the top score of 1.0 in four of seven areas. These are the strengths the test highlights:

App: the most user-friendly in the test, according to the tester

The mobile app scores 1.0, and the tester considers it possibly the best and most user-friendly app in the entire test. Your team clocks in and out in seconds on their smartphone or at a tablet terminal and sees vacation, flexitime and overtime at a glance. The app also works offline – in the basement, on a roof or in a rural dead zone. If someone forgets their break or to clock in, the app reminds them with a push notification.

As a manager, since 2026 you can see directly in the app who is working on what, approve requests and add new employees on the go. Your team joins with an invitation code and doesn't need a company email address. Users rate clockin 4.7 and 4.8 stars on average in the App Store and on Google Play.

Legal compliance: top score and a complete audit trail

For legal compliance and data protection, trusted awards a score of 1.0 and especially highlights the change log, which records every correction transparently. In 2019, the European Court of Justice ruled that EU member states must set up systems to record working time; how this is implemented varies from country to country. clockin alerts you when someone works too long, skips breaks or doesn't get the eleven hours of rest between two shifts. Once you close the month, nobody can change the hours retroactively. Your data is stored on servers in Germany, and clockin is ISO 27001 certified.

Documentation: a unique selling point, according to the test

trusted calls the checklists and forms a unique selling point. You attach photos, notes and your customers' digital signatures directly to the project. You collect everything about a job chronologically in the digital project file. Your team books their hours directly to projects, which you set up with tasks, budgets and phases.

The pages on project time tracking and documentation show you how this works in detail.

Setup: fast, with few hurdles

According to the test, registration, setup and day-to-day use went quickly and with few hurdles, earning a score of 1.4. Guided tours show you step by step where to find everything. You pick working time models such as full-time or part-time from ready-made templates. You import your employees in three steps via CSV file, which, according to the tester, not every provider offers.

Reporting: the filter builder as a highlight

Reporting scores 1.3, and the tester calls the filter builder a highlight of the test. It lets you combine data freely, save your filters and export them as PDF, CSV or Excel. According to the test, the timesheet is easy to read without any training. The automatic monthly report shows you unexcused absences, unusual entries and break violations.

Accounting: strong DATEV integration

Although integrations score only 2.5 overall, the tester rates the DATEV integration as strong. DATEV is the leading payroll and accounting software in Germany. You sync master data in both directions and see payslips from DATEV directly in the employee file. Your accountant gets their own portal free of charge in every package and can request documents from you there.

Pricing: affordable, transparent and fair

In “Contract & pricing”, clockin scores 1.0. According to the test, clockin is one of the most affordable tools in the comparison, and the tester finds the pricing model transparent and fair. You only add add-ons if you really need them.

Where there's still room for improvement

The test also names a few limitations. Most of them concern special cases:

  • Invoicing: So far, you create invoices in your accounting software. From November 2026 (planned), you'll be able to create quotes and invoices directly in clockin.
  • Integrations (score 2.5): CRM systems such as HubSpot aren't supported. However, no tool in the test scored better than “good” for integrations.
  • Approvals: Requests always go to the responsible manager.
  • Reports: You can't build your own report templates; you work with the filter builder instead.
  • Flexitime: Models with core hours and flexible time bands are only partly supported.
  • Hardware terminals: The test only covered the app and tablet. clockin now also supports time tracking via Datafox hardware terminals.

trusted sums it up: clockin is a strong choice for businesses whose people don't work at a desk and who want to track time compliantly, document jobs and work on the move.

  • Your team works out in the field – on construction sites, in home care, in shops or in kitchens.
